The Armani Privé Spring/Summer 2016 collection explored the feminine side of monochromatic dressing.
Front row guests at the show held in Paris included Iggy Azalea, Charlottle Rampling, Olga Kurylenka and Max Benitz, Juliette Binoche, Isabelle Huppert, Giuseppe Tornatorre, Gwei Lun-Mei, Hikari Yokoyama and Louise Marie de Castelbajac. Many of the actresses possibly spotted some Oscar dress contenders.
Prior to the reveal of the the couture dresses, Armani sent a series of of looks the combined the femininity of the ’40s and today in head to toe pastels. Shorts, flowing skirts and loose pants were all semi transparent and adorned with ruffles and wave like prints. Pieces lent to modern femininity were covered in sequins of the same soft colors. All of the looks had a delicate and flowing movement to them.
The theme was broken up by a shock of completely black jackets and sequins. The contrast worked well in the dresses highlighting the vintage inspired bustiers but seemed too sporadic and out of place everywhere else.
The future Oscar dresses were tailored to any actress wanting to make more of a subtle statement. They all featured a full skirt which much like the rest of collection appeared light and fluid. The wave-like patterns, the overlapping of ruffles and sequins enforced the theme of the movement of the sea. One dress seemed perfectly fit for a mermaid, the sequins mimicking scales. The elegance and restraint of the design of the gowns is a safe bet to land on the red carpet.
