21st Annual Critics’ Choice Winners Announced

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) announced the winners of the 21st AnnualCritics’ Choice Awards tonight, live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. 

The show aired on A&E, Lifetime and LMN Sunday and was hosted by actor and comedian T.J. Miller.

Spotlight was named Best Picture and garnered two additional wins including Best Acting Ensemble and Best Original Screenplay.  Mad Max: Fury Road, the most nominated film of the evening, won nine awards including Best Director for George Miller, Best Production Design for Colin Gibson, Best Editing for Margaret Sixel, Best Costume Design for Jenny Beavan, Best Hair & Makeup, Best Visual Effects, Best Action Movie, Tom Hardy for Best Actor in an Action Movie, and Charlize Theron for Best Actress in an Action Movie.

Leonardo DiCaprio was named Best Actor for his turn in The Revenant, while Brie Larson took home the Best Actress trophy for her role in Room.  In the supporting categories, Sylvester Stallone won for his return as the iconic Rocky Balboa in Creed, and Alicia Vikander was recognized for her work in The Danish Girl.

Nominated for eight awards, the most of any series, Fargo (FX Networks) took home four trophies including Best Movie Made for Television or Limited Series.  Kirsten Dunst won for Best Actress in a Movie Made for Television or Limited Series, Jesse Plemons for Best Supporting Actor in a Movie Made for Television or Limited Series, and Jean Smart for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie Made for Television or Limited Series.  Mr. Robot (USA) followed close behind with three wins for Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series (Rami Malek), and Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Christian Slater).

Clayne Crawford, nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, was decked out in a Black Velvet SAND Tuxedo, and Kenneth Cole Shoes for the swanky event. Although the award went to Christian Slater, Crawford has a lot to look forward to in 2016. He will be returning to the shoot  final season of the Peabody Award Winning show Rectify as Ted Junior, just announced that he is joining the Untitled David E. Kelly Show on Amazon for a pivotal arc, and has a starring role in the upcoming film Spectral with Max Martini and Emily Mortimer in August 2016.

Master of None (Netflix) won for Best Comedy Series. Amy Schumer received the “Critics’ Choice MVP Award” celebrating her acclaimed work on both television and film, which was presented to the actress, writer and producer by Judd Apatow.  J.J. Abrams presented the “Critics’ Choice Genius Award” to Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), which was recognized for its 40 years of revolutionizing filmmaking.
