“Scooby-Doo,” the classic tale of man’s best friend, has been a staple in pop culture since the ’70s…but how Scooby and Shaggy started their bromance has always been a mystery.
Scoob! brings us back to the beginning of the iconic friendship as we get a glimpse of how Scooby and Shaggy started their adventure as pups.
Will Forte voices the part of Shaggy in the film and says it was a role that was tough to turn down. “When somebody comes and says oh would you do this and it’s Shaggy and a Scooby-Doo movie you say yes! I was born in 1970, so Scoob which started in 1969, has been a part of my whole childhood, a part of me being an adult. So it was just an honor to be a part of it.” Amanda Seyfried, the voice of Daphne, was excited to bring her character to a whole new generation. “Of course I needed to be part of this franchise for the child in me and for my child. But it’s hard, I mean listen I brought Amanda to Daphne a little like I do to every character…but at the same time she’s still that bright, kind, present, hopeful friend.”
Not every character is friendly. Dick Dastardly, the quintessential villain of the original animated series was voiced by Jason Isaacs, a veteran voice-actor who is also recognized for his portrayal of Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter. Isaacs had a personal connection to the film. “I got an email that said you are being offered a part on the Warner Brothers animated feature Scoob! and that’s what we call my daughter. My 14-year-old is called Ruby and we’ve called her Scoob since she was born. So I didn’t actually need to read on.”
One brilliant, futuristic character is Dee Dee Sykes, voiced by Kiersey Clemons. When talking about Dee Dee, Clemons mentioned the importance of having diverse characters in the film. “Representation does matter and I’m excited to know that during isolation little girls back at home everywhere will look at Dee Dee and maybe go back to school in the fall (if we’re back to school in the fall) and be like okay I want the Dee Dee hairstyle and I’m gonna rock braids and put it up in a bun and you know sometimes we forget that we need that in 2020.”
