Tribeca Film Festival 2018 will open with the world premiere of ‘LOVE, GILDA’.
The Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, has announced that the 17th edition will open with the World Premiere of LOVE, GILDA, a documentary about Emmy and Grammy award-winning comedian Gilda Radner.
Directed by Lisa D’Apolito, the film is an intimate portrait of the beloved Saturday Night Live cast member told in her own words. The documentary contains readings from her personal diaries and featuring candid interviews with Chevy Chase, Bill Hader, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Cecily Strong, among others.
As a cultural festival, Tribeca’s mission and heritage is to elevate the voices of some of the most exciting artists and storytellers working in contemporary film, where new film directors have been discovered from Damien Chazelle to Reed Morano, Heidi Ewing to David Gelb.
Radner died in 1989 after succumbing to ovarian cancer. Her husband Gene Wilder continued to advocate for victims of ovarian cancer until his death in 2016. In continuing tradition, TFF celebrates female filmmakers — with D’Apolito’s debut as a first-time female director. In the face of new films at the premiere, there’s no doubt ‘LOVE, GILDA’ will be in good company.
The 2018 Tribeca Film Festival will take place April 18-29 in New York City.
