With the current social climate becoming increasingly environmentally friendly, it is only a matter of time until big brands start following the trend.
Unilever is traversing the murky waters between ‘going green’ and staying relevant. They have paved the way with a brilliant promise and giving an industry-leading commitment to ensure 100% of its plastic packaging was fully reusable, recyclable and compostable by 2015.
This comes on the heels of the Unilever press day which showcased brands in line with the companies ethics and policies. Haircare, personal hygiene, and even social media collaborators were highlighted. One of the standouts was youth orientated Gen Z startup Juv Consulting, which helps rebrand and reshape big corporations to connect with today’s generation. Showcasing how Gen Z have an obsession with online content, they gave free mini-tutorials of how to go viral on Instagram through turning yourself into a meme.
Dove hair & body care was also displaying their new range, impressively boasting animal-friendly products, which are organic and good for skin and hair. Offering free samples at every turn, attendees were treated with fresh kale juice, sandwiches and a healthy selection of spreads.
A particularly exciting innovation trend, was an art installation in which you could ship used items of clothing to be part of a sustainable installation piece to be released later this year. Sustainability and recycling was the purpose, and to encourage people to create less environmentally harming waste.
Unilever has gone up and beyond what is expected of a brand and we can only hope this is a trend that catches on universally.
