Last Wednesday in the Skylight Clarkson Square, expert tailor/designer Cho Cho Cheng showcased the beautiful hand-sewed garments from his upcoming collection.
Cho Cho Cheng added a layer of excitement and sophistication to this year’s NYFW with his elegant take on sustainable clothing. After fulfilling an apprenticeship in Savile Row, London, where he carefully studied the intricacies of British tailoring, Cho Cheng created a brand that would cater to a niche clientele who appreciates craftsmanship and environmental sustainability. Each one of his garments are made from sustainable European fabrics and are hand sewn following Savile Row tailoring techniques.

The Hong-Kong native focused on keeping the colors soft – yet playful – in his 2018 Spring/Summer collection. The first array of garments stuck to a traditional, clean-cut black and neutral shades – with most of the detailing concentrated on the collars, hems, and sleeves. The second half of the garments displayed shades of red, pink, gold, and purple. As the models walked out, the first thing that became apparent was the immense attention to detail that each outfit displayed. Most articles of clothing in the collection embodied the perfect mixture of elegance andminimalism. The jackets were truly the cream of the crop because of the unique tailoring and accents that pulled the looks together.
Another distinct feature of his show was the choice to have each one of his models sport a blonde bobbed wig. This was perhaps a nudge towards his key market: affluent and stylish wives. The wigs paired well with the underlying ” sophisticated Barbie” theme that the garments alluded to.
