The annual event occurred this past Monday in New York City.
GLSEN is the leading organization that aims to create safe and inclusive schools for all students. The organization believes in a vision in which every child learns to accept and respect all kinds of people, regardless of their gender identity and expression or sexual orientation.
The Respect Awards have been occurring annually since 2004 in Los Angeles and New York. This week, the organization honored Ann Clark as educator of the year, Carla Gugino for being an inspiration, Ryan Pedlow for being a visionary, Roland Park Elementary/Middle School and First Data for being a corporate ally at their annual GLSEN Respect Awards. The event’s special guest of the evening was Dr. Jill Biden, who delivered the evening’s opening remarks. Some of the event’s guests included Ariana DeBose, Carmen Carrera, Elliot Sailors, Chely Blitzaer Wright, Kyle Farmery, Andrew Morrison, Agnes Moore, Jeffrey Marsh, Eric Fanning and John King, the Former Secretary of Education.
The organization’s aims for a diverse and inclusive community in education and is seeking to help develop school climates where this can be made possible.
