We love to party here at The Knockturnal, but it’s even better when we get to party with a purpose!
On April 18th, WE hosted Party with a Purpose, in partnership with PacSun, to celebrate WE Day on April 19th. WE Day is the world’s largest youth empowerment event of its kind bringing together world-renowned speakers, A-list performers, and tens of thousands of youth to celebrate a year of action that transformed communities and changed lives. The event took place at the unique, 60’s inspired music lounge, The Peppermint Club where WE activists and celebrity ambassadors gathered to acknowledge the incredible impact WE is making to affect change across North America and the world! The evening kicked off with an opening speech from co-founder of WE Craig Kielburger and was followed by special guest speakers digital influencer and women’s equality activist, Lilly Singh and international model and body positivity activist, Winnie Harlow.
Lilly Singh gave a sincere and of course comical speech as she explained her reason for getting involved with WE Movement. Singh shared details from a recent ME to WE trip to Kenya that supported access to education for girls through her #GirlLove Rafiki bracelets. Her hope is to spread “girl love” and unity worldwide as she stated, “I’m tired of women being pinned against one another. It’s time we uplift and support each other’s goals. It’s time we spread love.” Singh also partnered with PacSun to create “Girl Love” t-shirts. Winnie Harlow, a long time WE ambassador also gave an empowering speech as she discussed her projects and work to make a positive impact on the world. Harlow discussed her involvement in launching the ME to WE Mother’s Day Collection which included ethically sourced Semi-Precious gemstones given to each guest in their gift bags. After her insightful speech, Harlow introduced Dvsn, an R&B duo signed to Drake’s OVO label and they brought the house down!
Special guests including Paula Abdul, Zuri Hall, Henry Winkler and many more were able to get proactive in the movement by creating customized “My Why” T-shirts of their own with the help of LA-based graffiti artist Teachr, an accomplished and prolific street artist. The WE co-founders wanted to celebrate living with a purpose and creating positive change by having guests illustrate their motivation for making an impact in the world whether it be for world hunger, women empowerment, clean water, etc.
Party with a Purpose was also the official launch of PacSun’s “My Why” campaign, which will run in-store and online. Customers can purchase ME to WE products to help change the life of a child or family in a developing community overseas.
WE Day, held on April 19 at the Forum in Los Angeles, brings together world-renowned speakers and performers to honor youth and their contributions to create change. This year’s lineup includes Jennifer Aniston, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Selena Gomez and more.
