My first thought was when I was invited to see a pickleball match take place on the deck of Edge — don’t hit the ball too hard! La Roche-Posay, the worldwide leader in sun protection, and third-time Official Sunscreen Partner of the US Open took pickleball 1,100 feet above Manhattan — the highest match ever played.

La Roche-Posay Sun Safety Ambassadors and professional tennis players Frances TiafoeMadison KeysTaylor Fritz, and Alex De Minaur briefly laid down their tennis rackets and took to the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere to join in on the pickleball craze. In town for the US Open, this was the perfect opportunity for these tennis superstars to have a little friendly competition while also supporting a wonderful cause.

This large-scale private event at Edge in Hudson Yards, the highest indoor/outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere took place during US Open Fan Week on Thursday, August 22nd. It was created to promote the brand’s ‘Every Day is a Sunscreen Day’ campaign. The day was sunny with not a cloud in the sky and the perfect opportunity to test out products by La Roche-Posay. My pale, Vampire-like skin is always in need of SPF, and being 100 floors up made it that much more important as we watched the pickleball match unfold. Dr. Muneeb Shah also got in on the pickleball action, holding his own against the professionals.

One in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70, making early detection and daily sun protection key. La Roche-Posay is raising awareness of daily photoprotection practices as a matter of public health with their new sun campaign, Every Day Is A Sunscreen Day. Following the match, La Roche-Posay presented a $50,000 donation to the American Cancer Society to support the fight against skin cancer.

The brand will also be sampling Anthelios sunscreens at product-sampling kiosks throughout the grounds which was also available at Edge. Consumers have the chance to win a signed tennis racquet from Frances Tiafoe, Madison Keys, or Taylor Fritz.

La Roche-Posay has also been a partner all summer at Edge with their installation titled SHADES, presented by La Roche-Posay. SHADES challenges you to consider the view more carefully: the experience reveals how changing our vantage point to subtract certain wavelengths of light – colors – from the sun’s rays reveals a world saturated in entirely new hues. These stunning visuals offer a perfect photo opportunity for visitors looking to capture unique and eye-catching moments against the backdrop of the New York City skyline.
