This week’s episode of Power Book III: Raising Kanan wasted no time following up on last week’s major events while introducing new challenges for several key characters.
Unique is still trying to build a life away from Queens with his girlfriend and their son. After being kidnapped by B-Rilla, his family is understandably shaken. His girlfriend makes it clear she has no desire to return to the city, but Unique struggles with leaving behind the only life he has ever known. He admits that the game is all he has, highlighting the internal conflict that continues to define his character.
Phil’s story comes to a violent end after Stefano arranges a brutal assassination. His car is ambushed and riddled with bullets in a classic mob-style hit. While Phil was never one of the show’s most memorable figures, it was nice to finally get a bit more personality from him before his death. The scene also felt reminiscent of the many mob bosses who were killed in similar car attacks throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
Marvin remains consumed by grief over Lou-Lou’s death and is convinced Unique is responsible. Determined to get revenge, he is paying anyone who can provide information on Unique’s whereabouts. His conversations with Jukebox are among the episode’s strongest moments as both continue to process their loss.
Stefano makes it clear he wants nothing to do with Raq. During a meeting with Breeze, Kanan, and Snaps, he takes time to mock Breeze’s name, creating one of the episode’s funniest moments. The scene was so ridiculous that you have to wonder whether the actors were trying not to laugh between takes. Stefano’s reactions to hearing the name “Breeze” felt completely genuine and added some much-needed humor amid all the tension.
Forced to look elsewhere for business opportunities, Raq meets with Benardi and Flossie in Manhattan. Flossie, who runs an illegal escort operation with NYPD connections, is intrigued by Raq’s proposal and demands a significant share of the profits. Raq, as always, confidently assures her that everything will run smoothly (And I think it will backfire in the long run).
Famous’ death continues to affect Kanan. Police bring him in to inform him that his small operation has been shut down and that he narrowly avoided arrest. What he doesn’t know is that I suspect Raq was behind the move. So, he had to operate from a small warehouse.
Breeze also makes it clear to Unique that he is no longer operating independently. Breeze views them as partners now and seems intent on pushing Unique out of Queens altogether. Later, Unique warns Kanan not to trust Breeze, but Kanan ignores the advice. He even jokes that he can barely keep track of all the Stark family drama himself.
The episode also sees Marvin kill Akbar during his search for Unique, while Jukebox and Aiesha officially end their relationship, realizing they want different things out of life as Jukebox is too different from her.
Overall, this was a strong episode of Power Book III: Raising Kanan that balanced emotional fallout with shifting alliances and new power plays. With tensions rising on every front, the season is setting up what should be an explosive finish.
