UTS is on a mission to revamp tennis by launching a global series of showdown events aimed at drawing in younger fans. They believe traditional tennis lacks personality and hasn’t kept up with the times, leading to a need for fresh rules and formats to appeal to modern audiences. It’s all about injecting new energy into the sport and making it more engaging for the next generation.
Over 10,00 spectators filled the stadium to watch history unfold. Andrey Rublev made history at UTS Oslo by winning his second championship, defeating Alex de Minaur in a thrilling final.
Rublev’s victory also secured his spot in the 2024 UTS Grand Final later in the year. This showdown marked the first time two former UTS champions faced off beyond the Final Four. Despite de Minaur’s strong performance, Rublev’s dominance in serve and return points ultimately secured the win.
In the semi-finals, de Minaur defeated Casper Ruud (A Oslo local fan favorite), while Rublev triumphed over Alexander Bublik.
The event was filled with drama, including Gael Monfils’ disqualification and the withdrawals of Dominic Thiem and Holger Rune, but also saw the impressive debut of 17-year-old Norwegian junior Nicolai Budkov Kjaer.
With nearly 12,000 fans in attendance, UTS Oslo proved to be a sensational opener for the year.
