Wine, art, and advocacy fueled the evening at the Center for Art & Advocacy in Brooklyn, NYC.
For the second year in a row, the Prisoner Wine Co. continues its partnership with Jesse Krimes for the third Annual Corrections Series Release. The Center for Art & Advocacy (also for the second time in a row) serves as the beneficiary organization of 5% of the sales from each Corrections bottle, plus 3% of sales from The Prisoner’s flagship Red Blend, in addition to a direct donation.
This year’s correction label features artwork from Krimes’ Purgatory series. “It was interesting to remove the soap portraits from the container and leave just that window as a way for people to understand that this system is designed so that anyone could potentially see themselves being confined within that window,” explains Jesse Krimes.
The evening began with patrons of art and lovers talking, mingling, and celebrating guests. I even had the opportunity to meet a few finalists on arrival, including Jesse himself. Warm, graceful, and excited for the evening.
The night commenced with a fireside-style, intimate chat led by Isolde Brielmaier. During a lightning round of questioning, where Brielmaier asked “What’s one thing that inspires you?” each finalist shared “I care about people who speak truth to power,” says Jared Owen Sart, “Someone who can be present in the face of whatever is going on,” says Omari Booker, “Hope,” Mr. Wash shares succinctly yet assuredly, “This is going to be corny, but I appreciate you,” Rusell Craig says to Jesse Krimes with a laughing-sigh and the audience responses with a collection of “Aww’s” and light applause. The reverence and fondness in that moment were tender.
After the chat concluded, guests began to indulge in the art, talk amongst themselves, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, and of course, enjoy the wine.
