The Latest
There are some moments in Hip Hop us fans can only dream of. Jay Electronica dropping an album, Lil Wayne coming back to his mixtape style, and a second Black Star album are probably going to remain intangible for the foreseeable future. Most people probably assumed that when rap duo Run The Jewels (emcee Killer Mike & emcee/producer El-P) claimed they were going to release a remix album featuring cat sounds as the beats, it would be written into that list. However, here we are in early fall of 2015 with a free download of the official Meow The Jewels album available from their site.
There aren’t many comments to be made on this project, it’s rap with cat sounds, you get what you expect. The only thing to really note is that this album was birthed from a fan made Kickstarter and the duo has decided to redirect the money raised (just over $65,000) to charity. This fact alone makes the whole endeavor hard to judge. A bunch of cats got some studio time, a lot of money was raised for a good cause, and the world ended up with a cat rap album.
You can visit the Run The Jewels website for a download of this project as well as their last album, Run The Jewels 2
