The Glasshouse Collection reflects the stages of light and how different light is portrayed with the passage of time
Last week, The Glen Grant hosted an intimate event to celebrate the debut of The Glen Grant Glasshouse collection. The event was held at Studio 525 in Manhattan and featured an immersive experience where guests could experience artist Lachlan Turczan’s latest installation while having craft cocktails featuring either The Glen Grant 12-Year-Old or 15-Year-Old and neat pours of 18-, 21-, or 25-Year-Old. To close the night, guests toasted with the to-be-released 30-Year-OldThe Glen Grant Glasshouse Collection highlights the intricate and delicate nature of this Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The portfolio for The Glen Grant includes a 21-, 25-, and 30-Year-Old expression, all of which are matured in American oak bourbon barrels and Oloroso Sherry casks. With this collection, the inspiration was to represent the journey and cycle of daylight within the Glasshouse. And this Glasshouse concept married beautifully with Turczan’s installation titled, ‘Optical Resonance.’ Using light and water, Turczan imitated the distillation process and created 3 distinct art pieces that represented each expression. These pieces reflected and refracted the light to create individual and unique shapes that associate with the age and stage of light each whisky represents.
The 21-Year-Old represents the first light and captures the nature of the first light peeking through the horizon. And with such a fresh and delicate nature to the first light, this expression captures that by embodying notes of tropical fruits, cream, butter, and caramelized sugar. The color on this whisky is a beautiful light brown that perfectly represents the freshness and warmth to the first light concept.
The 25-Year-Old represents the warmth of light coming from a setting sun. This whisky features a velvety smoothness to it while having prominent notes of dried stone fruit, toffee, dark chocolate, and warm, fragrant spices. Each sip leaves you with a touch of smoke that helps offset some of the warm richness that coats your palate. And this whisky’s color perfectly captures that beautiful golden glow that you get with the setting sun.
To round out this collection is one of The Glen Grant’s boldest expressions to be released, the 30-Year-Old. This whisky reflects the concept of twilight, the harmony of both light and dark in one. This is one of the oldest, rarest, and most complex whiskeys in The Glen Grant’s portfolio and features intense notes of oak on the forefront. This intensity is complimented but subtle notes of honey and dried fruit that help balance this whisky out on the palate. With a beautiful amber color, this expression is one of the most impressive and alluring whiskies Glen Grant has to offer.
