At an Emmys FYC event for Ted Lasso on Monday, the cast and crew celebrated their 20 Emmy nominations, following their record-breaking sweep of nominations in 2021 as the most nominated freshman comedy in Emmy history. This year, the show is up for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, along with 10 acting nominations for the talented cast members on the show.
The Knockturnal had the opportunity to speak with cast members Sarah Niles, Jeremy Swift, Cristo Fernández, and James Lance on the thematically-appropriate turf carpet prior to the event.
The FYC Red Carpet was followed by a Q&A with cast members Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Phil Dunster, Toheeb Jimoh, Kola Bokinni, Sam Richardson, Sarah Niles, Jeremy Swift, Cristo Fernández, and James Lance. The panel concluded with the cast and audience members singing “Happy Birthday” to writer and actor Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent on the show.
The tailgate-themed reception topped off the evening with Ted Lasso-inspired food and beverages, including appropriately-sporty foods such as hot dogs, burgers, fries, popcorn, and soft pretzels, along with a full collection of British desserts. Most notably, guests were also served small pink packages of biscuits, a nod to the daily gift Jason Sudeikis’ character Ted Lasso brings to Rebecca in the show, who is played by Hannah Waddingham.
