HiTechModa Presents: NYFW FW 26

by Megan D'Souza February 23, 2026
written by Megan D'Souza

The Edison ballroom hosted one of our favorite Fashion Week events of the season: HiTechModa’s biannual runway shows. We stopped by for Friday night’s Premier Designers showcase, featuring collections ffrom Alonso Maximo Design, Victoria Amerson, Marc Defang, Suave Suits by Wajahat Mirza, Karen Gold, Paaie, and Jus10n by Justin Hayes.

Known for reimagining fashion production through diversity, sustainability, and innovation, hiTechMODA delivered an energetic, tightly produced program. Designers from across the globe – emerging voices alongside established names -brought distinct points of view rooted in culture, craft, and modern luxury. As founder and executive producer Pamela Privette articulated, hiTechModa’s mission is “to open doors and expand the definition of who belongs on the runway,” and to “bring together designers whose work reflects innovation, culture, and the future of fashion.” That’s an objective we can unequivocally applaud.

The depth and variety of design perspectives embodied that mission. From Victoria Amerson’s 1950s-inspired silhouettes and playful prints to Paaie’s modern South Asian glamour, the lineup on the runway felt like a true crossroads: different aesthetics, inspirations, and communities, but united by the belief that fashion is a global language.

Now, the show itself.

Alonso Maximo Design opened up the night with bold, formal attire featuring dramatic silhouettes such as bright red, ruffled sleeves, and low cut men’s shirting with midnight blue sequins.

Victoria Amerson followed with a soft, romantic nod to a bygone era: dainty blues, florals, bows, and long A-line skirts. One standout look paired a Tiffany-blue suit with an undone, berry-toned floral tie draped down the sides, plus a black button-down peeking through: elegant with an added flair.

Then Marc Defang reinvigorated the room: models ballet dancing up and down the runway in feathered white leotards to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” It pushed the boundaries of what we expect from a typical Fashion Week presentation, staying true to hiTechMODA’s spirit.

Suave Suits reimagined the suit through varied cuts, colors, and occasions, stretching the category far beyond the traditional definition.

Karen Gold brought bespoke formalwear with a contemporary edge. Unexpected waistlines, sculptural shoulder construction, and the rare combination of pieces that feel truly fresh and genuinely wearable.

Paaie, a contemporary South Asian occasionwear designer, brought out some of the most stunning, refreshing takes on lehengas, saris, and suits – their gilded pieces absolutely lit up the room. Glamorous without being

overdone, modern while honoring heritage.

And finally, the featured guest designer Jus10n by Justin Haynes blew the crowd away with patchwork suiting, streetwear, and outerwear that highlighted creativity at its best. The energy was undeniable, each designer brought a distinct point of view, and the crowd stayed locked in from start to finish.

hiTechMODA’s New York shows also continue a bigger run of international momentum for the program, following showcases in Paris, Milan, Tokyo, and Cannes, while still keeping New York as its creative home base. NYFW is supposed to be the world meeting in one city, and  hiTechMODA delivers on that feeling.

Carrom x Clarence Ruth Exhibition Wraps with Panel Moderated by RHONY’s Racquel Chevremont

by Natasha Martin February 23, 2026
written by Natasha Martin

This week, the Carrom x Clarence Ruth Exhibition closed a successful one-month run at Ki Smith Gallery on the Lower East Side. Timed to debut in celebration of Black History Month, the exhibition was curated by fashion designer, author, and artist Clarence Ruth. Widely regarded as the first exhibition of its kind, the multidisciplinary showcase transformed handcrafted Carrom boards into contemporary works of art while preserving their playability.

Toward the end of the run, the gallery hosted the Carrom x Clarence Ruth Panel Discussion, an intimate cultural conversation exploring the convergence of art, fashion, craft, and cultural identity. Art curator, cultural connector, and The Real Housewives of New York City personality Racquel Chevremont moderated the discussion. Together, the panel examined how heritage, materiality, and community shape contemporary creative expression. They also explored creative collaboration, cultural storytelling, and the importance of physical community spaces in an increasingly digital world.

Additional panelists included exhibition curator Clarence Ruth, painter Jeremy Yuto Nakamura, Bradley Taylor, co-owner of The Carrom Company, and Ki Smith, founder of Ki Smith Gallery and a champion of emerging, diverse, contemporary voices.

The exhibition and panel were presented in partnership with RAISEfashion, with a donation of $10,000 to the organization. RAISEfashion provides pro bono strategic and creative support to Black-owned brands and creatives. The evening drew creatives, collectors, fashion insiders, and cultural tastemakers. As a result, the exhibition served as an intentional complement to Fashion Week programming and was featured on the official CFDA Fashion Calendar. Guests enjoyed refreshments courtesy of VOSS Water, Hampton Water Rosé, LVMH, and Algodon Wine.

Originating in the 1800s, Carrom boards have long served as communal objects of craft and play. Clarence Ruth’s reinterpretation introduces a new cultural framework for the historic medium. It brings renewed energy to the form while engaging a younger, design-minded audience and honoring generations of craftsmanship. Each artist worked within the constraint that the boards remain fully functional. This required durability, surface precision, and gameplay integrity alongside visual expression.

Limited-edition prints of the artist collaboration Carrom boards are available at carrom.com while supplies last.

NYFW is officially in full swing. This twice-a-year fashion extravaganza, held once in September and again now in February, is replete with runway shows and popups throughout the city. Influencers and fashion celebrities alike transform the streets of SoHo into their canvas, strutting down them in the latest designer collections to create content for social media.

It’s not just individuals tuning in to the fashion conversation – stores around the city eagerly capitalize on these opportunities as well. This past Thursday, to celebrate the start of NYFW (and the latest installment of its monthly event series), vintage store What Goes Around Comes Around, known for its luxury resale and custom vintage pieces, hosted an evening pop up in the iconic SoHo neighborhood.

Invited actresses, models, and influencers were treated to sweet and savory treats and fruitful conversations about up and coming collections. Servers clad in all black gracefully offered guests sips of champagne and wines and rotating spreads of canapés. Tucked away in a discreet corner were portrait artists on site, giving guests an opportunity to go home with an inked version of themselves.

As guests shuffled in, DJ Jordy Spice curated a mix that matched the effortlessly cool and chic looks of the guests themselves. The event was hosted by content creators Fiffany Luu and Maya McHenry.
