Toronto International Film Festival’s warm reception for ‘Elsinore’ has set a hot stride for the Oscar race.
At the Princess of Wales Theatre on Sept. 14 a sold-out crowd gave a five-minute standing ovation for the film. Simon Stone and his lead actors Andrew Scott and Billie Piper stood before the audience who chattered about being deeply moved as the panel commenced.
Scott’s towering performance is not to be missed and is due to keep up with the momentum of awards seeason. H delivers a breathtaking performance that profoundly honors the real-life story of Ian Charleson, the Chariots of Fire actor who courageously pushed through AIDS to play Hamlet at London’s National Theatre.
Playing with the ultimate quest for the answer to Shakespeare’s famed question with “to be,” the film is a pure look at the best and worst of humanity, suffering, and what ends up winning in the end – love.
Superb storytelling keeps the film balanced with a harmonious script for actors. Stone (TIFF ’15’s The Daughter) has grandly accomplished a cinematic dream from the stage to the big screen to fortify Charleson’s legacy in Elsinore.
TIFF will run until Sept. 20 in Canada. The festival proudly celebrates filmmakers from around the globe.
