Eon’s productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayor studios, and Sony Entertainment Pictures announced that Sam Smith with sing the new James Bond anthem for the upcoming SPECTRE. The song titled “Writing’s on the Wall” was written by Smith and Grammy award winner Jimmy Napes and will be released on September 25. Smith, who has already gained success from his debut album The Lonely Hour may be looking towards more after the movie is released as many artists of the Bond theme have including Adele who sang Skyfall for the film of the same name. Though he is the first male vocalist of the Bond theme since 1965, producers of SPECTRE Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson said in a statement that the song, “will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.” Smith himself said in a statement he’s honored and recording the song is one of the highlights of his career.
SPECTRE, in US theatres on November 6, follows Bond (reprised by Daniel Craig) as he tries to unravel the criminal organization SPECTRE he discovers after receiving a cryptic note. The web leads him from Mexico City to Rome, while back home Max Denbihg, played by Andrew Scott, from the Centre for National Security questions Bonds choices and the relevance of MI6. Bond is forced rely on only Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to find Madelinne Swann (Léa Seydoux) the daughter of his old enemy, and the enemy he is currently seeking played by Christoph Waltz. As Bond fights further into the web he’ll discover a connection between his enemy and himself, while Sam Smith croons in the background.
