Producers are looking for a young woman with a great voice to breathe life into the iconic role of Dorothy.
‘The Wiz Live!’ is TV event adapted from ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ by L. Frank Baum, with a book by William F. Brown, and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls. The production originally opened on Broadway in 1975 and has won seven Tonys. Kenny Leon will direct this production with written material from Harvey Feinstein.
NBC has issued an open casting call in search of a young African-American woman between 18-27 years of age. She must also have a remarkable voice capable of telling a story while being mature with a youthful energy.
Candidates should be ready to sing portions of songs from the original production, specifically “Home”, “Ease on Down the Road”, and “Be a Lion”.
The casting call is set for Monday, July 20 at Third Street Dance, 8558 W. 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90048. Sign-in is from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
‘The Wiz Live!’ is set to be telecast on Thursday, December 3rd.
