Just two days before the release of Beard, Syd, one of the lead vocalists and founding members of the Grammy-nominated R&B band The Internet, invited fans, friends, and collaborators to The Motoring Club in Glassell Park for an intimate evening celebrating her latest solo project.
Rather than hosting a traditional listening party, the singer-songwriter created an immersive experience that reflected the laid-back, creative energy that has defined both her career and her highly anticipated new album.
As guests arrived, the venue’s collection of vintage cars set the tone for the evening before everyone gathered for a karaoke-style lyric video presentation of Beard. The interactive experience gave attendees an opportunity to sing along while getting an early look at the album’s storytelling, introducing tracks such as “Walls,” “Callin” featuring Blu June, “Jasmin 17,” and “My Love.” As the night continued, fans also previewed collaborations with Jordan Ward on “Always Be Mine,” CUBE on “Closet,” James Fauntleroy on “Any Time,” and the standout Big Sean collaboration “GMFU.”

The celebration extended beyond the music with several interactive activations inspired by the album itself. Guests customized copies of Syd’s Beard cover art by drawing their own beards onto the artwork, while complimentary beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and food truck meal tickets kept the atmosphere relaxed and social. The intimate setting encouraged conversation throughout the night, allowing attendees to experience the project together rather than simply listening from a distance. The guest list reflected Syd’s influence across music and entertainment. Big Sean, whose appearance drew plenty of attention ahead of his feature on “GMFU,” was among those celebrating alongside fellow R&B standout Alex Isley, actor and writer Lionel Boyce, and actress Yara Shahidi. Their presence added to an already memorable evening without overshadowing the focus on Syd and her music.

By the time the final songs, including “Bad Guys,” “Do Better,” “Water,” and the closing track “2 Many Days,” played through the venue, it was clear Beard is one of Syd’s most personal projects to date. The listening experience captured the same understated confidence that has become synonymous with her artistry, offering fans an authentic first look at an album that balances vulnerability, collaboration, and effortless groove. If the response inside The Motoring Club was any indication, Beard is poised to become another standout chapter in Syd’s already impressive catalog.
