My Non-Spoiler Preview of ‘The Boys’ Season 3

It’s almost time for The Boys season 3 to premiere.

The third season of The Boys will debut on Amazon Prime this Friday with new episodes airing weekly. Fans are wondering how the third season will follow up from that explosive finale on the second season. I got the chance to watch the first 8 episodes of The Boys’ third season. However, I am only allowed to speak on the first three episodes. With that out of the way, here is my non-spoiler preview of the third season of The Boys.

What I notice from the first three episodes, is that there is a central theme for this season. That is, the conflict of different ideologies within The Seven. This is further explored on the second episode as it feels like The Seven is beginning to crumble. I can say that Homelander (Anthony Starr) is different this time as he is no longer apologetic for his actions anymore. It is more of the lines of Homelander is beginning to accept that he is not this “all american hero” to the public anymore. I cannot say what drives him to put it out in the public, but a feeling of guilt affected a minor incident that resulted in something that went horribly wrong. Anthony Starr’s performance really shines on these first few episodes with the second standing out.

I will have to bring this up because there is one particular scene that might spark up a conversation on social media. I will not say what it is, but Amazon might have to place a disclaimer on one of the episodes due to the real world events that took place in Texas. Let’s say that it is a moment of poor timing.

Billy (Sam Butcher) is also heavily featured on these first few episodes and he now has laser vision. It was unexpected when it first happens during a tense action sequence with Gunpowder (Sean Patrick Flannery) and it is worth watching every second.

The blood and gore of the third season of The Boys is the most disgusting and eye-twitching of the series so far. Especially during the first few minutes of one of the episodes. My eyes was wide open on how that gore scene happened. And it also made me think of how it is physically possible for a body to do that. Watch with caution because the gore is awesome.
Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and Hughie (Jack Quaid) are in a full blown relationship now. They have their normal lives as a couple with their own problems. The scenes between the two actors are my favorites of the season so far as they feel organic and real. Expect to see them both bicker about one thing that they want in the first few episodes. I wish I can say more about it.

There are also new characters that joined the cast of The Boys along with major cameos. Unfortunately, I cannot say who, but there is a big one in the first episode and few more later in the season.

Overall, The Boys’ third season is engaging and television done right. This show does not need to rely on silly gimmicks that forces you to watch another season. The Boys’ first two seasons set up the foundation of the third and I love what I am seeing so far. There is no need to feel overwhelmed to revisit the other seasons. That is because they are recapped in the opening. The Boys proves time and time again that Amazon changed the formula when it comes to storytelling in the superhero genre and it is great!
