The Knockturnal attended The Barclay Center for an exclusive one-night-only exhibit.
Modelo has partnered with avant-garde artist Daniel Gamache (Mache) to curate the ‘Modelo and Brooklyn Nets Hall of Fame’ pop-up gallery that will pay homage to some of the most iconic moments of Nets history, featuring exclusive, never-before-seen memorabilia and sneakers.
We were pleased to enter the Brooklyn Nets gallery to see this new collaboration between Modelo and Mache. Upon entering the music was the first element that set the tone of the event, at the booth was none other than Dj Diamond Kuts. Other celebrity attendees were Papoose and DJ Envy.
Similar to how a musician is closely tied to their instrument painters and their paint brushes, it’s evident for Mache, footwear is an extension of his art and creativity.
If you’re a sneaker-head like we are, the attention to detail was to be appreciated. At the unveiling, the sneakers he designed throughout his career were encased in glass similar to museum artifacts. Each sneaker displayed a description of its release and it encapsulated that moment in time. Historically, this highlights Mache’s impact in the space as a designer not only in fashion but in the culture.
Mache also shared with The Knockturnal how he navigated during and after the pandemic. He told us he found new ways to keep his creative spark ignited. He and his team were focused on finding new ways to connect with core consumers, the people who appreciated what he does. Custom work is a major market. Indeed there was a sense of pride in the room that was undeniable, especially being a Brooklynite myself we tend to take pride in where we’re from and where we’re headed. As we learned more about this avant-gard artist’s contribution in some way I had a thought process as we enter into 2023. I reflected upon the steps” that we take in our lives, with a New Year, resolutions, goals, and the paths we embark on. Wherever those roads lead, every step we take should be outfitted with the same Fighting Spirit as this limited edition sneaker by Mache & Modelo.
