On Tuesday night we were invited to The Cutting Room for a sneak preview their upcoming new show, The Midnight Experience -a wild and risqué performance featuring aerialists, circus and burlesque performers.
We knew what we were in for from the very start, as the show opened with a emcee and magician Albert Cadabra swallowing a 6-foot long balloon to the song “I’m Going Down.” Mr. Cadabra was an engaging comedic presence throughout, as he introduced the other vaudeville-like acts, including the scandalous burlesque acts of performers Maine Attraction and Mr. Gorgeous, and contortionist Miss Ekatarina, who performed a fluid aerialist set above the crowd dangling from silk scarves tied to the rafters.
The Midnight Experience is produced by Brian Rardin and Kristin Olness. Rardin’s directorial resume is vast having worked on Bronx Queen Trilogy, Garbo, Deflyance, Swingin’ At Jack’s, Under The Tree: Suspended Cirque; He has also provided Stage Management to A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Equus with Daniel Radcliffe, Well, Amadeus with Michael Sheen and Showboat. Producer Kristin Olness worked on the Tony Award winning Broadway revival of Cabaret reprising her role as Helga in 1998 and 2014. She has toured internationally as a principal aerialist with Cirque le masque, Cirques on Ice, and ImaginAerial, and co-founded Suspended Cirque. She is also a co-founding instructor at Aerial Arts NYC.
This 90-minute show will take place every Saturday night at midnight, beginning on Saturday, May 21st at The Cutting Room, with special guest stars and a rotating troupe of deviants to make every show a truly unique after-dark experience.
