The three-time Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum artist Maxwell performed at The Wells Fargo on Tuesday, September 24th, in Philadelphia.
The singer is on tour alongside October London and Philly native Jazmine Sullivan. The night was filled with classic R&B and soulful music, starting with October London hitting the stage to kick off the night. October London graced the stage with a tailored suit and cigar, singing his number-one hits. The rising singer-songwriter paid homage to Snoop Dogg, who signed him to Death Row Records in 2022. As the singer performed his songs, a montage of his success played on the big screen with Snoop Dog making a cameo.
After October London left the stage, two-time Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan entered the stage. At some point in the night, Jazmine confessed her gratitude to Maxwell and how The Serenade Tour reunited the two from 2008 when she joined him on his Maxwell 08 Tour.
The singer put on an amazing show in her city, singing songs like “Girl Like Me,” “Bust Your Windows,” “Price Tag,” “Need U Bad” and more. Sullivan had friendly banter between her sets and even allowed her background singers an incredible solo performance. Jazmin’s voice is like no other, and she gave an excellent performance with her entire crew from start to finish.
When the man of the hour hit the stage, he appeared on a second stage in the back of the arena, singing his newest single, Simply Beautiful. His smooth re-rendition of the Al Greene classic was sung from start to finish as the crowd cheered him on. From there, Maxwell walked from the back of the arena through the crowd as he sang to center stage. It was truly an R&B party as he performed his classic hits.
He sang songs like “Sumthin’, Sumthin'”, “Bad Habits”, “Lifetime”, and numerous other classics. In between his sets, Maxwell would emphasize how important it is to make his music for the art of it instead of the business. It was truly a dance party watching Maxwell perform as his energy was reciprocated by the crowd. The Serenade is a concert to see and experience and isn’t over until the end of October.
