Lauren Altman brought the color, yarn and sparkles to her newest collection.
The fashion show was hosted at an art gallery in the Lower Eastside, which set the tone that we were in for a creative presentation. The opening model was a glowing mature woman with long white hair, and piercing purple eye liner, who wore a dress that had colorfully painted dots all over, which got the audience’s immediate reaction. As the models continued to strut down the runway, the textures were out in full celebration. Lauren’s clothing offered pieces that were slashed, painted, crocheted, bedazzled, and layered fits. The accessories were thick and bold statement pieces that featured seashells, chunky crystals, big buttons, and dangling pearls that complimented the artistic outfits.
The final look was a captivating, neutral-toned dress that featured a painted-on self-portrait of the artist, with a transparent black veil over it.
After the models walked the runway, they came back to circle it on both ends and stood there for viewers to take in their looks fully, both eye-to-eye and with their cameras. The models not only walked the walk, but the stationary strategy allowed for fashionistas to carefully dissect all the unique details and for the models to individually pose for the onlookers. After that, the models got their musical cue and strutted the runway a second time, and then paused afterwards once again, so that newcomers could see the show fully, and the audience could get a second chance to process it. The designer herself strutted the runway and with her beaming smile, she graciously thanked everyone for coming to the fashion show, as she waved to all the impressed onlookers.
