EduSkating’s arrival to NYC this November was the topic of the evening. One of the founders of the program, Melissa Gregory a 2006 U.S. figure skating Olympian was elated to announce, EduSkating will be coming to Brookfield place in lower Manhattan. In addition to opening 9 skating rinks in the Bronx by this November 2015. Founded by Melissa, and her husband Denis Petukhov (who came out at the end, and is also a figure skater and a 2006 Olympian) EduSkating is just one of the youth/fitness initiatives running under Proud Nation Inc.’s non-profit organization stationed in Hartford CT. Together both founders won 6 U.S. national medals, have traveled internationally, and received top world rankings. In just 2 years this power couple has managed to serve over 300 school children, and intercity kids, in addition to obtaining a grant from the Department of Education. Whether it’s an afterschool program or just a field trip, Proud Nation Inc.’s EduSkating agenda is to be a sport based youth development initiative to increase youth participation. In other words FREE SKATE! Proud Nation inc.’s EduSkating is not only going to benefit grades Pre K through 12th in NYC, it will also be accessible to adults wanting to exercise, have fun, and learn good sportsmanship.
