Now that spooky season and Thanksgiving are long gone it’s time to embrace the Christmas holiday spirit one of the best ways one can- watching Christmas movies!
Netflix recently added The Christmas Chronicles to its holiday roster starring Kurt Russell as a modern day hip Santa Clause. The Netflix original follows siblings Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) on Christmas Eve as their plan to catch Santa on camera turns into a wild ride they never imagined. From sneaking into Santa’s sleigh and causing it to crash to wrangling reindeer in the streets of Chicago, Kate and Teddy quickly find themselves having to help Santa save Christmas.
The premiere was a full family affair with Oliver Hudson, Goldie Hawn, and Wyatt Russell in attendance among the various other celebs who came out to support. You already know The Knockturnal was on the scene last week to witness it all and we got to catch up with some of the cast and talk all things Christmas and the new film.
“I’m just so excited and I really hope that this movie becomes a Christmas classic,” said Darby Camp who is also on Big Little Lies. She shared her love for Christmas and what she is most excited about this upcoming holiday. “I’m looking forward to spending time with my family, opening presents, and celebrating the birth of Jesus.”
Judah Lewis explains how special Christmas movies are to him and his family. “Every year we come together and we watch a bunch of Christmas movies and for me this project it’s like if this can become that even for one family it’s totally worth it.” Lewis plays Darby’s older brother in the film and stars in The Babysitter which is also on Netflix.
“Everyone’s crazy during the year and it’s the one time everyone can sorta get together and create memories, have a blast, and drink a lot of whiskey,” spilled Oliver Hudson who we all know is Kurt Russell’s step son but also stars in The Christmas Chronicles as Kate and Teddy’s late father. Warning this part in the plot will be sure to have you reaching for a tissue but it’s okay because Kurt’s remarks as Santa surely make up for it and will have you laughing and wondering why he’s never played Santa Clause before.
The premiere was followed by a winter wonderland extravaganza right outside the Bruin Theater with fake snow falling from above, cookie decorating stations, chocolate milk being passed around, and even a live band. It’s as if all of a sudden attendees were transported to the North Pole after watching the movie. The Christmas vibes were in full swing and we were totally here for it.
Stream the movie on Netflix and you’ll probably ask yourself the same thing we asked ourselves. Who knew that Kurt Russell would make such a great Santa?
