It’s not unusual to go out in Los Angeles on a Wednesday Night and have a good time. So when I got word of the new SoundCloud Singles series, I couldn’t help but attend the event.
The stage was set for independent artists: K$upreme, Lil West and Jae Stephens to perform at an eclectic bar in the Arts District of Downtown LA called Resident. The energy in the building was refreshing as everyone was eager to network and watch the performances.
First up was LA native, Jae Stephens. She came out on stage and performed her heart out. Tracks like “Headlights,” “You Love That,” and “Someone Else” got the crowd moving and shaking. Next up was Lil West. He had a more aggressive energy with tracks like “No More” and “O.K.” The headliner for the night, K$upreme, arrived 10 mins late (possibly an intentional move to entice the crowd). Whether intentional or not, it worked. The crowd put their cell phone lights up and bobbed their heads as he performed his most recent tracks like “Views,” “Stunna,” and “IDGAS.”
Overall the optimism in the air for these young up and coming artists was inspirational. Well done SoundCloud, well done.
