Following the quick success of his debut studio album, Antares, Kris Wu celebrated by holding an album release party this Thursday in Chelsea, New York. Formerly part of the ultra-popular Korean boyband, EXO, Kris in the recent years has gained popularity internationally and is highly acclaimed as one of the hottest up and coming disruptors in the music industry.
Although the location was held at a discreet venue, by 9 pm fans were heard eagerly awaiting the intimate invite-only event hours ahead at the entrance. Upon arrival, small groups were led into a garage freight elevator that gave a sneak peak for the party’s theme upstairs. Guests were served cocktails in the elevator bar with a dedicated bartender.
The artist, dressed in all white accessorized with a black bandana, finally j0ined the crowd around 10 pm accompanied by Project Runway host, Karlie Kloss, who wore slick back hair and a black leather jacket. Kris immediately took to the mic following a few photo ops around the album themed venue, with fans gathered to the edge of the stage. The international artist prefaced his performance by thanking fans for topping the Billboard charts and also noting his excitement in sharing his birthday surrounded by his supporters. On the tracklist were hits from his chart-topping album, such as the title track “Antares” and appropriately “November Rain”, which the singer superstitiously mentioned that everywhere he’s traveled recently has been celebrated by November rain. The Chinese-Canadian also shared a song in Mandarin called “Tian Di” to show gratitude to his Chinese audience who supported him from the beginning of his career in Asia. Following the few tracks, Kris joined the party for drinks and a celebratory birthday cake lit with eight candles, commemorating his 28th birthday.
