Paramount+’s hit spy-thriller The Agency is back for its second season, and actress Katherine Waterston spoke with The Knockturnal about her character, Naomi Ford, and what drew her to the role.
The series follows a covert CIA agent who is forced to abandon his undercover identity and return to London Station. When a former love unexpectedly reenters his life, old feelings resurface, complicating an already dangerous mission. Starring Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Gere, and Katherine Waterston, Season 2 premiered on June 21, 2026.
In an interview with The Knockturnal, Waterston reflected on what resonated most with her about portraying Naomi.
“The first thing I was drawn to was her complexity,” Waterston shared. “It was right there on the page from the first few episodes, so I really knew the writers valued that complexity.”
She explained that layered female characters are still too rare in film and television, making Naomi especially compelling. Rather than presenting women as simply strong or weak, Waterston praised the series for embracing the reality that people embody both strength and vulnerability.
“To know that the writers who were doing all 10 episodes of the first season were as interested in complexity as I was,” Waterston said. She went on to praise the show’s writing for portraying women authentically. “Women, portrayed like the women I know. Not that there are some that are strong and some that are weak. They are people, and sometimes they are strong, and sometimes they are vulnerable, and you can put that all into one body.”
With its suspenseful storytelling and emotionally layered characters, The Agency continues to raise the bar for modern spy dramas.
