The Heart of Chelsea or the Heart of Italy?

Chef Salvatore Olivella’s new restaurant, Forno D’Oro, blends cozy Italian food with the chic sophistication of Chelsea. Plush velvet chairs fill the vibrant dining room, a full bar catches your eye the moment you walk in, and warm staff greet each guest with genuine hospitality.

The meal kicks off with Bruschetta. It’s plump, juicy tomatoes and fresh basil crown the dish, resting on a bed of peppery arugula. It’s a bright and simple opener that sets the tone for what’s to come. Alongside it, the Tartare di Tonno delivers deep, pink tuna layered with creamy avocado, whose smoothness compliments the lightness of the fish.

The Downtown Roma cocktail follows the appetizers. It’s smoky and smooth in equal measure, with a tart tajín rim that pulls the whole drink together. It almost evokes the feeling of a smoke break during a night out in Rome. The Cucumber Spritz, channels the opposite mood. The virgin beverage is calming from the moment its bright green appearance catches the eye. It’s minty and cooling –  a perfectly refreshing companion on a humid New York day.

The mains arrive next, led by the Capricciosa pizza. The soft, thin crust supports a generous amount of prosciutto, artichokes, mushrooms and olives covering the pie. While the basil weaves throughout, lending a lovely freshness to every bite. The light tomato sauce adds just a touch of sweetness to round out the savory, salty notes, while smooth mozzarella creates the ideal canvas for every topping to shine. Alongside it, the Caesar Salad delivers exactly what you’d hope for. Filled with crisp romaine lettuce, crunchy croutons, the right amount of dressing, and a generous dusting of Parmesan.

Saving the best for last, the Filet Mignon arrives beautifully cooked. A subtle char and smokiness define the cut, which nestles into a small, glossy pool of au jus. Roasted potatoes, carrots and asparagus surround the steak, while a sprig of rosemary adds a hint of earthiness. Lastly spinach and broccoli round out the plate. Comforting and hearty, it’s exactly what you want when you order a steak dinner out.

From the first bruschetta to the last bite of filet mignon, Forno delivers on every front and leaves you already planning your next visit.
