Last month New York City Wine & Food Festival had a big reason to celebrate thanks to Casa Dani.
On October 14, Citizens, sbe, and Dani García – one of Spain’s most revered chefs and global exports behind Casa Dani Restaurant – hosted a wonderful event all in the name of good. Supporting the work of New York’s leading provider of life-sustaining meals and nutrition counseling, God’s Love We Deliver, the soiree was part of the the 15th annual festival fundraiser.
Disruptive Restaurant Group, the leading restaurant and nightlife group devoted to the development of visionary concepts and award-winning culinary experiences within Founder and CEO Sam Nazarian’s global sbe portfolio, recently partnered with Spain’s leading chef Dani Garcia to open Casa Dani this past year.
At Casa Dani, the menu leans toward seafood with highlighted dishes including the chanquete con huevo y pimiento (noodlefish with fried eggs and roasted peppers) and chipirones en su tinta (baby squid in ink sauce). Menu items invoque an experience based on quality, flavor, roots, and hospitality that Chef Dani Garcia is known for. Other menu highlights include a section dedicated to world’s best tuna, as well as Southern Spanish staples such as a raw bar, Mediterranean tapas & mezzes, a selection of whole fish cooked over an open fire, and an assortment of Spanish paellas. There is a portion of the menu dedicated to tapas and also a tribute to rice dishes.
Casa Dani has quickly become the talk of the Hudson Yards area of New York City, serving elevated southern Spanish comfort food inspired by family recipes from Chef García’s childhood. “Casa Dani” means “Dani’s house,” coming from southern Spain’s tradition of naming small family restaurants as if they were the chef’s home. This is precisely Chef Dani’s García’s intention, to open the doors to his house, offering some of the world’s best cuisine inspired by Spain’s Mediterranean south.
The Mediterranean decor features light wood, warm clay plaster, leather, tile, and marble. The dining room is clad in richly textured tile and has a large fireplace and dynamic undulating ceiling with glowing, lantern-like pendant lights. The 30-foot-long open kitchen, showcasing Casa Dani’s unique cooking techniques, is framed by a reflective box and sits opposite from the bar. High top tables, hanging plants, soft lace-inspired drapes, and a counter to carve salt-cured tuna charcuterie all reference the restaurant’s Spanish origins.
