At the historic Gotham Hall in Manhattan on April 21, the American Apparel and Footwear Association marked the 50th anniversary of the American Image Awards by honoring standout figures across the apparel and footwear industry with Alina Cho as the emcee.
The 2026 American Image Awards recognized Fabletics as Company of the Year, accepted by Adam Goldenberg, and Zac Posen as Designer of the Year. Timberland received the Fashion Maverick Award, accepted by Nina Flood, while Josue Solano and Seth Campbell of BBC International were honored with the Trailblazer Award. The Icon Award went to Ruben Toledo.
Across the evening, a shared focus on community, innovation, and creativity came through in nearly every speech. Ruben Toledo built on that sentiment, saying, “To stand here and receive this is overwhelming because this was never mine, this was ours.”
Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, invited actress Katie Holmes onstage to award Zac Posen Designer of the Year.
As longtime friends, Holmes spoke to Posen’s evolution with an ease that reflected years of knowing him beyond the stage. She wore an elegant GapStudio tuxedo, a subtle nod to his new role at Gap Inc. “His incredible career has included red carpet couture, ready to wear, accessories, and costume design. It was another fateful meeting over French fries, this time with Richard Dickson, that brought Zac to one of the world’s most iconic brands. Zac is now Executive Vice President and Creative Director of Gap Inc.”
In his acceptance speech, Posen reflected on his early beginnings: “It’s so full circle to be here, I started my career when my mom said get the job in 1996.”
“What a gift to be on this journey with all of you, to continue to extend that invitation far and wide and to push the boundaries of what is possible in American fashion. I’m humbled and thank you,” Posen added in his closing remarks.

Nina Flood accepted the Fashion Maverick Award on behalf of Timberland saying: “To be recognized as a fashion maverick is a proud moment for us because Timberland has never been a brand that quietly follows. We lead with conviction, we back it up with craft, and make products that earn their place, built with intent and for the real world,” she commented.
The night reinforced that creativity and business don’t operate in opposition; they move together.
