Gucci included a little bit of everything in its 2016 Resort collection.
A mix of prim and proper, East meets West influences, girly and delicate, as well as some 60’s Mad Men chic were included. The collection is pulled together with eccentric bright colors that make the collection fun and playful. The looks are punctuated periodically with more severe looks and more structured sportswear silhouttes reminiscent of the ladies of the 60’s in order to keep the collection grounded with a foot in reality. The plethora of fabrics used illustrates a mix and match of ethereal fantasies. Light lace and chiffon floated the runway in bright prints and patterns of modern woodland fairies. The delicate lace is also decalled with zodiac animals as well as dragonflies. These pieces act as transitions to tie in one fantasy to the next. The East meets west aesthetic comes into play when traditional chinese zodiac animals mingle with western prints and cuts. A traditional Chinese Qipao was also created using more western colors as well as brightly colored fur trim. Classic prim and proper necklines and structures have been given a new life in bright violets, marigolds and fuschias.
The star studded guest list included Dakota Johnson, Sam and Aaron Taylor Johnson, as well as Gia Coppola wearing the brand’s recent Fall Winter 2015-2016 collection. The brand later hosted a dinner after the show at The Bowery Bar and Grill with a custom menu while DJ Kim Ann Foxman provided music for the evening. A live performance by Karen Elson featuring Jackson Smith was also enjoyed by guests during dinner.
