On June 9th New York City’s Sheen Center filled with a lively fashion crowd dressed in their glamorous best for Flying Solo’s Fashion Awards. Attendees wore everything from feathers to ruffles to sequins to sculptural corsets in a beautiful display of personal style.
The award show kicked off with an introduction from Flying Solo’s founders Elizabeth Solomeina and Daniel Silverstain. They established this night to celebrate artists who make the magic of fashion happen. The Fashion Awards honored models, photographers, production designers and more. Silverstain said it was all about, “Dreamers, creators and visionaries.”
That sentiment continued when Marianna Humeniuk won Best Editorial Model. During her speech she spoke about the massive amount of rejection and obstacles everyone in the industry faces. She encouraged the room to find the strength to keep going to reach moments like this.
Host Evan Wimberly kept the lively energy going, asking the crowd, “Did I do a good job” interpreting his son’s request to dress like a ninja? His relaxed charcoal suit with strips of loose fabric along the jacket’s lapel and cuffs seemed to do the trick.
Makeup artist Maite Moreira also gave a memorable speech. She dedicated her award to the mentors who helped open doors for her as well as her husband. He moved to New York City with her, away from their home in Uruguay, so she could, “Chase her dreams.”

The night went on to honor many international talents including Japan, Estonia, and Uruguay. The crowd warmly embraced and celebrated each countries’ win.
The big prize of Best Editorial went to the team who created the Poor Things spread for Pap Magazine! The shoot is an extra whimsical take on the offbeat film of the same name.
