Function of Beauty has changed the way we buy haircare yet again! They’ve recently launched their customizable shampoo and conditioner in Target. With Function of Beauty now entering the retail world, customized luxe haircare is more accessible than ever.
I’ve been dying to try customized haircare products for quite some and just haven’t gotten around to it. So when I heard the news about Function of Beauty launching in Target, I was excited, and then I wondered…. “Am I going to be mixing shampoo in Target?” I had so many questions and hoped that I wouldn’t be losing too much of the experience of customizing my own shampoo online, but Function of Beauty created such a simple and unique system that has completely changed the way I will be purchasing my shampoo and conditioner.
Here’s how it works, there are four bases (straight, wavy, curly, and coily) alongside 10 Hair Goal Booster Shots. To create your customized haircare system, you pick your base and up-to three booster shots. There are two boosters in each pack of Hair Goal Booster Shots, one for shampoo and one for conditioner; you put them into each bottle and shake for 15 secs, and voilà you have your customized shampoo and conditioner. The bases are what I was most excited about. Because I have 4a/b coily textured hair, I was nervous that I’d be putting a booster into a shampoo that was too harsh for my hair texture, so being able to pick a shampoo and conditioner that’s right for my hair texture before adding anything into them is extremely important to me. I chose the coily base, formulated with Flaxseed oil and Jamaican Black Castor oil, perfect for my naturally dry 4a/b textured hair. Next came the time to select my Hair Goal Booster Shots. The booster shots are where you really get to customize what’s best for you. The 10 Hair Goals Booster Shots are strengthening, anti-frizz, deep condition, soothe-scalp, volumize, lengthen, shine, color protection, curl definition, and thermal protection. My three are the deep condition, curl definition and anti-frizz. What I love about being able to add in the boosters is that you can switch it up. Not only can you customize your haircare for your hair texture, but for however, you’re styling hair. Let’s say I get my hair colored, I can swap out one of the booster shots for the color protection hair booster, or if I decide I want to start doing more blow-outs, I can grab the thermal protection boosters when it’s time for a new bottle. All of their bases and boosters are cruelty-free, vegan, paraben-free, sulfate-free, and for us curly and coily girls, silicone-free.
After using the system on my own hair I’m sold! I am a true “wash-n-go” girl so whatever I use to wash my hair is doing A LOT of the styling work for me. My shampoo CAN NOT be too harsh or strip my hair of it’s natural oils and my conditioner MUST hydrate my curls, and the mixture I created does that splendidly. I will take some of the credit for creating such an amazing shampoo and conditioner being that I did customize it myself, and while I would love to try other boosters I’ll probably stick to this cocktail for awhile. But in all seriousness Function of Beauty has been known to make an amazing product for some time, and being able to just run into Target to customize my shampoo and conditioner makes it 10x more amazing!
Surely by now, you’re saying “Okay girl, how much is this personalized hair care going to cost me?!” Each 11oz bottle of shampoo and conditioner is only $9.99. The Hair Goals Booster Shots with 2 in each box is $2.99. The complete experience of one shampoo, one conditioner, and three hair boosters, comes to a total of $28.95. For custom hair….. THAT IS INCREDIBLY AFFORDABLE! That’s almost the cost of one hair conditioning treatment at a salon but now, you can go to Target and grab it off the shelf and have your hair feel amazing until your custom shampoo and conditioner bottle runs dry. Even if you just wanted to try them with one booster, it won’t hurt to try.
