Inspired by the iconic street trucks of yesteryear and fine-tuned for today’s asphalt arenas, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is an unapologetic celebration of fun, finesse, and customization potential, with a price point that isn’t totally insane.

First Impressions of the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo

From the moment you encounter the Maverick Lobo, you’ll know this isn’t your ordinary pickup. It just looks cool. Its lowered ride height — half an inch closer to the ground up front and over an inch lower in the rear relative to the stock Maverick — shouts performance, while a subtly sculpted roofline drops nearly an inch, lending a sporty silhouette that beckons to the streets.

The black-painted roof contrasts sharply with the distinctive front styling and a bespoke vertical grille.

The truck features painted bumpers and striking 19-inch gloss black wheels, conjuring images of neon-lit night drives and city curbs conquered with ease. It was appropriate to review this truck in the streets and byways of Miami, where a tuner truck scene is extremely active. This is a truck that commands attention but never asks for permission — it’s a thrilling street truck ready to take center stage. It’s cute but not diminutive. It looks potent.

At the heart of its performance lies the surprisingly robust 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, delivering a robust 238 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque through a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Updated LED projector headlamps with signature accent lighting illuminate give the Lobo a slightly more upscale look.

We did some mild off-roading and found it acceptable, but this isn’t the Lobo’s happy place. The reduced ground clearance made things challenging. We don’t recommend dune bashing or beach cruising. We found fuel efficiency extremely impressive, even in sport modes, averaging 40 MPG during our test period, including a Lobo mode use, highway, and city driving.

2025 Ford Maverick Lobo Interior

Step inside the Maverick Lobo’s cabin and you’ll witness a youthful burst of street art-inspired flair. Designer Kristen Keenan has imbued the interior with vibrant Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching — a playful homage to the eclectic spirit of streetwear.

The graffiti-inspired seat detailing adds a dash of urban edge, while the embossed Lobo insignia on the driver and passenger seats feels like a secret handshake among the performance-minded. We’d have liked to see the Lobo’s high-gloss black exterior make its way into the interior. The blue and green accents are beautiful, but feel separated from the exterior identity.

The rear seat area is spacious for a truck this size and features 3-across seating.

A 13.2-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen provides a central command, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with SYNC® 4 enhanced voice recognition.

For those who opt for the “high” configuration, creature comforts like a heated steering wheel, heated seats, a moonroof, and spray-in bedliner elevate the experience from mere functional to theatrical.

2025 Ford Maverick Lobo with Lobo Mode

The true magic happens once you flick the switch to “Lobo mode,” a feature inspired by drifting and autocross prowess, designed for closed-course performances, think of Lobo Mode as the Maverick’s version of Mustang track mode, a switch that unlocks its torque vectoring twin-clutch rear drive unit while dialing back stability control intervention. The result of this toggle?

Cornering precision, grip, and stability that tame understeer and unleash the Maverick’s inner street performer. Complemented by tuned springs and shocks, the vehicle is leverages the suspension for a nimble, responsive system. The steering feels more direct and sporty compared to the standard Maverick, while upgraded brakes—with dual-piston front calipers borrowed from Europe’s Focus ST—ensure the truck can stop on a dime. Behind the scenes, the cooling system gets an upgrade with a larger radiator and transmission oil cooler.

The good thing is that the Maverick Lobo does feature a street-safe Sport mode (along with familiar modes like Normal, Tow/Haul, Slippery, and Eco) that enables real excitement on the open road and is supported by the upgraded abilities provided by the Lobo spec. It sails from 0-to-60 while maintaining stability at speed, actually reminding us of BMW’s quick-shifting transmission, holding onto torque in an impressive and completely unexpected way.

2025 Ford Maverick Lobo: Tech and Safety Features

The Maverick Lobo balances its wild side with thoughtful technology designed to keep safe and comfortable in the spotlight. The tested vehicle featured available Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 driver assist features, and a 360-degree camera to helps navigate tighter spaces.

Ford’s suite of safety features are appropriately tailored- never overbearing or encroaching on driving pleasure. Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Aid do the job and nothing else. All safety features can be easily modified in intensity.

For trailer-towing aficionados, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist transform the often stressful task of hitching and backing up trailers into a smooth, choreographed routine. We’re doubtful Maverick Lobo buyers are towing anything serious, but the capacity is acceptable for this class of truck. We did find the adaptive cruise control to be a little disorienting. It can only be initialized at speeds above 25 MPH, but will still drive at speeds below 25 MPH once initialized. That is, until you hit stopped traffic, in which the cruise control switches to “standby”. It’s not a problem, but a confusing jump in logic.

Final Notes on the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo

The 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is a breath of fresh air in the compact truck segment — a true street truck revival that brings the fun back into the driver’s seat. With its lowered stance, performance-tuned suspension, vibrant interior, and exhilarating Lobo mode, this little pickup invites you to personalize, play, and perform your own driving act. It’s not just a truck; it’s a fun machine on wheels, a charismatic companion for those who want to stand out and feel alive behind the wheel. The Maverick Lobo is here to remind us all that trucks don’t need to be dull to be capable — sometimes, the best ones are just bundles of pure, joyful excitement.

The standard Lobo version starts at $36,595. The High Lobo version (which we tested) starts at $42,090 and adds more features.
