Tracey Wigfield:
Q: Can you talk about what you love about this season compared to the rest?
A: Yes, I’ve been really excited partially because this season is on Hulu. We have been able to do different things than we have before. Our premiere was in a sort of alternate reality, we are going to do a flashback episode, we have an episode coming up where Danny and Morgan go on a roadtrip together across the country, and those are things we were always like ‘oh wouldn’t that be funny if we could do that episode?’ but because of the constraints of network, often you couldn’t, and it would be too weird, and it wouldn’t be serialized enough. And so we have been able to do a lot of weird things – also we can mention product names on Hulu, which is a dream come true for me who just wants to talk about Duane Reade all the time, Macy’s, and Oreos.
Q: Which character do you love to write for?
A: Mindy, I think, just because she is so outrageous and can be so awful and hate the environment and so shallow and spends all of her rent money on emojis and stuff. But she is still very likable and people want to be her best friend.
Q: One thing that I really love about the show is that every character is neurotic but also very lovable and down to earth and real…
A: And they aren’t just nice, competent people, everyone has really terrible problems, people are very maxxed on this show.
Q: So can you talk about how you keep each episode as great as the last and make each character keep their consistent traits?
A: I think it comes down to our work is very collaborative and so when an episode comes in, we all take a pass at it and do a joke punchup of the episode together as a group to keep the content consistent, keep the voice consistent, and also to make it as funny as possible.
Q: And what can we expect from all the characters coming up?
A: We have a couple of interesting things. Ed is dating a girl, Cristin Milioti, and he has some love life trouble with her and then it sort of plays out in the upcoming episodes and he starts looking for a new girlfriend and hopefully he will be able to explore his love life a little bit more.
Beth Grant:
Q: You have the best lines ever, and this season you are dealing them out more than ever, so what can fans expect from the rest of the season?
A: More of the same and I cannot wait to find out. Every week we get the script and I am appalled, excited, and titillated by my lines. ‘Am I going to say that?!” it’s great. Somebody just suggested that I should write a bio using all these strange things and like tie them all together. I think I’m going to try and do that that would be fun. Like my own fanfiction. We know she has been to prison, we know she masturbates sort of in public, she has had blue balls, she does a lot of stuff so we have great potential here to figure out her roles.
