Pro skateboarder Maurio McCoy sat down with The Knockturnal to talk the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and joining got milk?

Maurio joins Team Milk from the iconic got milk? campaign. In the team are a group of best-in-class athletes setting out to debut brand new sporting events at the Olympics this summer.

Skateboarding has never been featured at the Olympics before and Maurio is hoping to make it to Tokyo after his final qualifying event in June.

“I’ve been skating. It’s been business as usual,” Maurio said. “The good thing about skating is it’s not a disciplined activity, so you’re not really in the gym. But mostly the way you get ready for skating is by going skating.”

Of joining Team got milk? he said. “It’s a huge honor. A lot of my favorite athletes growing up were a part of the got milk? campaign, so for me to see myself here at this time is insane to me. So I’m super grateful for the opportunity. And I’m just happy to do it through skating. I didn’t have to do it any other way, I did it through what I love and it’s a unique opportunity.

Maurio spends hours skating every day and said drinking milk gives him the fuel he needs to be ready to skate as well as aids in muscle repair, rehydration and building strong bones.

“Milk has been part of my daily routine. It’s the first thing I reach for in the morning and it just gets my day going, starts my day right, and gets me ready to go skating,” he said.

The Pennsylvania native is now living in California and says while he likes the good weather that lets him skate throughout the year, there’s no place like home and he misses East Coast foods.

He said he’s most looking forward to traveling again once Covid restrictions lift.

“Right before all this happened I was traveling a ton for skating. I’m excited to compete again, it’s been a year. I’m excited for a little bit of normalcy,” Maurio said.
