Power couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie wrote the film Somebody I Used to Know, which will be released globally on Amazon Prime Video on February 10th.
Somebody I Used to Know is the fourth project the couple has collaborated on; along with writing the film, Franco directed it, and Brie played the role of Ally. The film follows Ally, who is portrayed as a workaholic TV producer who finds herself unemployed after her show gets canceled. While attempting to figure out her next step, she returns to her hometown, where she reconnects with her first love Sean, played by Jay Ellis. After the two catch up, they begin to wonder what would have happened had they never broken up. This thought causes some complications after it’s revealed that Ellis’s character is engaged to be married to Cassidy, played by Kiersey Clemons. While attempting to win back Sean, Ally begins to see the confidence and creative convictions she once had in Clemon’s character. As the movie progresses, viewers can see how this unconventional love triangle helps these characters rediscover their passions and figure out where they want to be in life.
This film takes on a unique approach when depicting the concept of reconnecting with the one that got away, letting the past go and focusing on the future, and remaining true to yourself when focusing on your creative passions. These concepts help create an intriguing storyline that incorporates comedic elements, nudity, and self-discovery. The Knockturnal spoke with Franco, Brie, Ellis, and Clemons about the film and what they hope viewers will take away from Somebody I Used to Know.
