Mark, Mary, and Some Other People, starring Ben Rosenfield, Hayley Law, and Matt Shively premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 10. And for Ben?
This was a dream come true. “It’s definitely kind of a bucket list thing for me to be a part of a film that’s premiering there,” said Rosenfield. “As a New Yorker, it feels like a really big deal, especially after the year that we’ve all been through.”
Mark, Mary and Some Other People humorously explores the world of modern dating and open relationships. Though witty and lighthearted, the film serves as an accurate depiction of the potential difficulties that may occur while practicing polygamy in a committed relationship.
The film follows college friends Mark, a young man that is inventing a new type of birth control that uses spit instead of urine, and Mary, a struggling musician, that reunite post-graduation and get married. The pair are deep in the honeymoon phase until they decide to spice things up and try out an open relationship.
“I think maybe what went wrong was not the fact that they were experimenting with their relationship, but that, ultimately, there were some communication that maybe could have happened or should have happened,” says Rosenfield.

Ben Rosenfield and Hayley Law were able to be spontaneous in their roles and express their creativity. “I really enjoyed the opening sequence that ends in the bathroom with a pregnancy test and me singing a song to Mary,” said Rosenfield. “That was something that wasn’t fully scripted so nobody knew exactly what was going to happen.”
But that’s not all! Not only is Ben an actor, but also a talented musician and is currently working on some new music to release. And after watching that singing scene? We’re hoping it’s coming real soon.
Mark, Mary and Some Other People is currently seeking U.S. distribution.
