This past weekend, that presence was especially strong on Fairfax Avenue, where Complex LA hosted the PROLIFIC pop-up in celebration of the new posthumous collaborative album from Nipsey and longtime collaborator Bino Rideaux.
Nearly seven and a half years after his passing, Nipsey Hussle’s presence can still be felt throughout Los Angeles. The three-day pop-up, held Aug. 14-16, gave fans an opportunity to step inside the world surrounding the 15-track project. The experience blended music, fashion and pieces of Nipsey’s history, including unreleased footage that offered fans a chance to see moments of him that had never previously been shared publicly.

That footage was one of the more powerful elements of the experience. Nipsey was murdered in March 2019, a loss that Los Angeles and hip-hop culture continue to feel more than seven years later. For me, moments like this also carry a different significance as someone who knew Nipsey personally. Seeing previously unreleased footage after all these years made the experience both nostalgic and bittersweet. Still, the weekend was centered more on celebrating Nipsey’s life, creativity and vision than mourning his loss.

The Marathon Clothing played a major role in the experience, with the pop-up featuring new merchandise from the brand’s Prolific collection alongside limited-edition items connected to the album. The collection continued the connection between music, fashion, entrepreneurship and ownership that Nipsey championed throughout his career.
The experience also extended outside Complex LA. Fans could grab food from the official Marathon Burger food truck and take photos with Nipsey’s A$I Truck, adding another recognizable piece of his history to the weekend. Bino Rideaux also stopped by for a meet-and-greet and signing. His relationship with Nipsey dates back years, including their fan-favorite 2017 collaborative project No Pressure. PROLIFIC now continues that musical relationship through previously unreleased material recorded before Nipsey’s passing.

The album arrives as another chapter in a legacy that extends well beyond music. From All Money In and The Marathon Clothing to his investments in the South Los Angeles community, Nipsey consistently pushed a message centered on ownership, growth and building something that could last. More than seven years later, the turnout on Fairfax showed just how strongly that message continues to resonate. The PROLIFIC pop-up gave longtime supporters and a new generation of fans an opportunity to experience another piece of Nipsey’s creative vision while celebrating a legacy that remains deeply connected to Los Angeles.
