On The Scene: Behind the Secnes of Christian Siriano’s FW2024 Show, With TRESemmé and Lacy Redway

For his Fall/Winter 2024 New York Fashion Week show, Christian Siriano implemented glimmering shades of red and orange, reminiscent of a beautiful sunset. The always-iconic show featured models such as Coco Rocha and Daphne Velghe,  and included a dazzling featured hairstyle seen on the runway – the ‘Celestial Box Bun’.

These future-inspired styles that TRESemmé Partner & Celebrity Stylist Lacy Redway created, provide a new take on the trending ‘Extra Terrestrial Indulgence’ hair looks that utilize interesting and extravagant textures.

Prior to the show, the backstage area at the Plaza Hotel was a similar situation, with striking hairstyles being created to match the glamorous looks the models would be donning later in the evening. Spearheaded by the talented TRESemmé Partner & Celebrity Stylist, Lacy Redway, the ‘Celestial Box Bun’ emerged as a standout feature, blending elements of futurism with a touch of ethereal elegance.

Redway drew inspiration directly from Siriano’s visionary collection. The aim was to echo the reflective nature of the designs in the hair, while also infusing it with bold and unconventional textures, resulting in a look that exuded both fun and futurism. “My inspiration for this look is quite literally a reflection of Christian’s collection,” Redway said. “When I first saw the clothes, I wanted to mirror the reflectiveness of the designs in the hair while also indulging in blunt and unique textures that make the look feel fun and futuristic.”

In her latest fashion endeavor, designer Keren Craig is combining style with innovation. New York Fashion Week continued with an enchanting debut as she unveiled the latest collection in her line, Nidra Devi, at NeueHouse Madison Square on Wednesday. Titled ‘TWILIGHT REVEALS EACH DREAM’, the presentation captivated attendees with its mystical allure and ethereal aesthetic, marking a remarkable entry into the fashion scene for the emerging brand.

The essence of Nidra Devi’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection lies in the captivating moments between dusk and daylight, where dreams and illusions intertwine to form a tapestry of beauty and inspiration. Named after the Hindu goddess of sleep, Nidra Devi epitomizes Craig’s vision of modern glamour and elegance.

Established in 2022, the brand offers intricately detailed evening wear designed to make women feel their most glamorous, whether gracing the red carpet or dancing into the night. From embellished separates to embroidered dresses and tuxedos, Nidra Devi presents a distinctive selection of highly crafted garments that exude sophistication and allure. Craig crafted a collection that embodies both the real and the fantastical, inviting wearers to immerse themselves in a world where every garment tells a story of magic and mystery.

The garments showcased at the presentation were a testament to Keren Craig’s vision of modern whimsy and sophistication. Trompe l’oeil techniques breathed life into denim and velvet creations, while oxblood sequins and frayed organza florals added an ethereal quality to the collection, evoking a sense of weightlessness and light. Music Is Life | Life is Music Grammy’s Afterparty

Last week we were at Academy LA, in the heart of Hollywood, for one of the best Grammy’s Afterparty’s. After the most anticipated nights in music, Lucid Motors and Affinity presented “Music is Life | Life is Music” hosted by that night’s 2x Grammy Award-winning Leon Thomas and Grammy award-winning songwriter Derrick Milano.

Affinity Nightlife is an event, casting, and promotion company based in Los Angeles. With over 20 years of experience producing extravagant nightlife and lifestyle events, they have been able to develop worldwide relationships.

The first host, Leon Thomas, is known for his work behind some of the biggest songs in music. He has worked with artists like Sza, Ariana Grande, Drake, Post Malone, Chris Brown, Zendaya, Jack Harlow, Ty Dolla $ign, 6lack, Ella Mai, Kehlani, Giveon, Jessie Reyez, and Babyface. The other host of the night, Derrick Milano, is also well known for writing hit songs for artists like Justin Bieber, Pop Smoke, Nicki Minaj, and Megan Thee Stallion.

The invite-only celebration honored the excellence of music’s biggest names who are songwriters, producers, creators, and talent. Guests were able to enjoy sounds by celebrity DJs Talon Reid, Dre Sinatra, and Justin Credible with a surprise guest performance by Ty Dolla $ign. Celebrity DJ Talon Reid and Dre Sinatra called Ty Dolla $ign to the stage where he performed and gave congratulatory shout-outs to his friend’s wins along with a congratulatory shot. This surprise performance was a treat for a night that was already filled with music, dancing, and overall good vibes.

Speedy Morman Talks New Partnership with Smirnoff and the Smirnoff SMASH Pickle Bowl in Las Vegas

Speedy Morman is one of Smirnoff’s newest partners and will host the inaugural Smirnoff SMASH Pickle Bowl in Sin City for their new Smirnoff SMASH Vodka Soda. Some of the biggest names in Hollywood like Saweetie, Lance Bass, Scheana Shay, Brock Davies, Vernon Davis, and Kay Adams will play America’s new favorite sport, pickleball. The pickleball showcase on the Las Vegas Strip will allow fans 21+ to experience the bold combination of the brand’s newest ready-to-drink Smirnoff SMASH Vodka Soda. There are four new flavors and only 100 calories each. The flavors are unexpected combinations like Strawberry Dragon Fruit, Watermelon Lime, Pineapple Orange, and Raspberry Peach.

 

Smirnoff will welcome those (21+) along the Las Vegas strip to experience the Smirnoff SMASH Pickle Bowl. Those who attend can play a few rounds of pickleball while tasting the bold flavors of Smirnoff SMASH Vodka Soda. Fans can hit the pickleball courts on Friday, February 9th- Sunday, February 11th, and play a game of pickleball, try the bold new flavors, and receive some Smirnoff swag.

Complex 360 host Speedy Morman spoke with us about his exciting new partnership with Smirnoff, hosting the first-ever Smirnoff SMASH Pickle Bowl, and what we can expect from him in the future.



Okay. So our first question, how does it feel to be partnering with Smirnoff?

Speedy: It feels great. I mean, it’s such a storied brand. I think we all have experiences, uh, with the liquor brand as big as Smirnoff. And so, it feels great. I’m excited when they reached out. I made sure we picked up the phone right away and, and we’re ready to rock.

So Smirnoff just released the Smash Vodka Soda with four new flavors. Have you been able to try them? And if so, what’s your favorite?

Speedy: My favorite is by far the pineapple orange. I like a sweet drink. And they’re all good, but if you’re asking my favorite, I’d have to rock with a pineapple orange.

Smirnoff is introducing unexpected combinations for their new flavors. Which one do you think will catch people by surprise the most?

Speedy: I think raspberry peach, probably because I think people are going to be surprised at how tasty they are. You know, you just see a lot of times flavors slapped on a bottle or slapped on a can and you think, Oh, whatever, It’s probably fake juice or, but knowing that it’s real juice and actually tastes good. I think that’s why the raspberry peach is the one that has surprised people most.

How cool is it that there are only a hundred calories?

Speedy: Super cool. I mean, everybody’s trying to watch their figure. We are all trying to get our summer bodies right? And you know, we all want to look our best, hundred calories, keeping things healthy and light.

So how are you preparing for the Smirnoff Smash Pickle Bowl?

Speedy: Oh, I’m getting in the zone mentally, physically, a thousand pushups a day, thousand burpees. No, I’m just playing. I’m excited. You know, between Lance and Scheana and Saweetie and the rest of the gang, I think they’ll be ready to rock.

So do you have a lot of experience playing pickleball yourself?

Speedy: I wouldn’t say a lot, but I definitely have some experience. I’m a pretty fast learner though. So it’s taking the world by storm it feels like – or at least America by storm. It feels like it kind of came out of nowhere. And now it’s like the fastest growing sport in America, it seems. So I’m excited to see how Saweetie is out on the court, to be honest.

And how does it feel to be hosting for the competition with these big names?

Speedy: It feels great. I mean, it’s like I said to one of my other colleagues, they should be glad I’m not playing to be honest, but it feels great to be hosting – just to be air traffic control and just kind of make sure we get to where we need to go safely. But I do know that I’ll be adding my little color commentary in there and I might have some fun and some things to say. So I’m excited.

So the Smirnoff Smash Pickleball is in Vegas. What can fans expect when they hit the Las Vegas Strip?

Speedy: Oh, man. I think the Strip is going to be a movie, to be honest. There’s going to be so much energy going on in the city. But no energy is better than this Smirnoff Smash Pickleball. I’m excited about it. I think that is really where the basis of all of the energy will be coming.

So with prior basketball experience, how are you preparing to play pickleball?

Speedy: I’m just kind of like a natural athlete. So, you know, basketball certainly helped me agility wise, but you know, I can pick up any football, baseball, basketball, hockey, you give me the tools. I’m gonna learn how to play.

Why do you think pickleball is so popular right now?

Speedy: I think the barrier of entry for the sport is really low, right? Like a lot of people think it’s less physically taxing than tennis. But also more stimulating and exciting than ping pong. So to me, it’s just like a perfect blend of a sport that anybody can play – any able bodied person can play. And so I’m excited about the future of pickleball and looking forward to seeing it permeate into other areas of our culture.

So what can we expect next from you as hosts for 360 with Speedy? Is there anything you can share that we can look out for?

Speedy: We just had an interview drop with one of the biggest streamers in the world and content creators in the world. His name is Duke Dennis. But I have a superstition. I don’t like to speak about stuff before the episodes come out so I can’t say too much, but we got some big A-listers on the docket this year. Some big movie stars and athletes. So, I think the people will be excited to tune in when those episodes drop.

And final question, are there any other projects we can look out for outside of Complex?

Speedy: Yeah I mean, I’m always working, you know, I host a show on Amazon Music. But honestly, I’m really most excited about the big game weekend in Vegas. The Smirnoff event is going to be a good one. And so, I’ve been just shaping up, getting in tune, and ready to rock out and see my fellow colleagues: Saweetie and Lance Bass and Kay and Vernon and everybody else in the rest of the gang in Sin City. I can’t wait.

Last week, I attended the RUN DMC Kings From Queens premiere. The 3 part docuseries now streaming on Peacock. It takes you back to 1983 when three kids from Queens had a dream of having their music played on the local radio. What they accomplished was so much more.Run-DMC is recognized as one of the most influential groups in the history of hip-hop culture and especially one of the most famous hip-hop acts of the 1980s. The group was among the first to highlight the importance of the MC and DJ relationship.  In this series, you will see all the ups and downs, the sacrifices, and the influence that made RUN DMC. You also will hear from hip-hop legends, such as Eminem, LL Cool J, Jay Z, Nas, and many more, how RUN DMC inspired and influenced them in their careers.  Their unique take on combining two genres of music, hip hop, and rock, which tore down racial barriers, made them international stars and fashion leaders of the ’80s. After a series of  turmoil events and  obstacles  including the murder of  DJ Jam Master Jay. Rev Run and DMC reunite to tell their story and celebrate the genre of music they established.

Invited by the enchantment of Disneyland Resort, we embarked on a journey through the latest wonders of the park at the exclusive “We Came to Play” event. With a hopper ticket in hand, promising access to the park’s latest offerings, our day was destined for adventure and delight.

Warriors of Wakanda: Disciplines of the Dora Milaje

Our journey commenced with the exhilarating “Warriors of Wakanda: Disciplines of the Dora Milaje” experience. Guests were immediately immersed in the rich culture and traditions the legendary Wakandan warriors, the Dora Milaje had to offer. As participants stepped into this interactive experience, they found themselves transported to the heart of Wakanda, where they were greeted by the fierce and noble guardians of the kingdom. Through a series of engaging activities and challenges, guests of all ages had the opportunity to train alongside the Dora Milaje, honing their skills in combat, strategy, and teamwork. Led by skilled instructors, visitors embraced the values of courage, honor, and unity that define the warrior spirit of Wakanda. From learning traditional battle techniques to mastering the art of self-discipline, each moment of the experience was designed to inspire confidence and empowerment in every participant. With its blend of storytelling, physical activity, and immersive theming, “Warriors of Wakanda” left a lasting impression, reminding guests of the indomitable strength and resilience found within us all.

San Fransokyo Square

Next on our itinerary was the newly reimagined land of San Fransokyo Square, inspired by Disney’s acclaimed film “Big Hero 6.” Augmented with the genius of Hiro Hamada and the lovable Baymax, this futuristic fusion of San Francisco and Tokyo offered an immersive encounter with beloved characters, delectable cuisine, and exclusive merchandise, truly enchanting visitors with its innovative charm. Pacific Wharf has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as San Fransokyo Square, a vibrant fusion of two iconic cities – San Francisco and Tokyo. Inspired by Disney’s Academy Award-winning film “Big Hero 6,” this reimagined area invites guests to step into the not-too-distant future, where the charm of San Francisco merges seamlessly with the energy of Tokyo. As visitors wander through the streets of San Fransokyo Square, they are greeted by the sights and sounds of bustling city life, with towering skyscrapers and neon signs illuminating the skyline. One of the highlights of this new district is the opportunity to interact with beloved characters from the film, including the ingenious Hiro Hamada and his lovable healthcare companion, Baymax. Our culinary journey led us to Paradise Garden Grill, where the flavors of Mediterranean cuisine harmonized with the festivities of Lunar New Year. Indulging in Korean-style BBQ chicken, served with steamed rice, kimchi, and pickled cucumber, we savored every bite of this delectable dish, a testament to the park’s commitment to culinary excellence and cultural celebration. Paradise Garden Grill has evolved into a culinary destination that not only tantalizes taste buds but also celebrates cultural festivities with its ever-evolving menu. Stepping into this vibrant eatery, guests are greeted by the aroma of flavorful eats, which have long been a hallmark of Paradise Garden Grill’s offerings. However, the restaurant has recently taken on a new dimension, embracing the spirit of Lunar New Year with a menu that pays homage to the rich culinary traditions of the holiday.
