On Thursday, July 2, Duracell, in partnership with the USO, hosted a small screening for their upcoming commercial that will air on July 4. This video is meant to celebrate America’s Independence while also honoring the troops that fight for this country every single day. Their video shows what it is like to be a part of a military family, showing the life of a young girl whose father has been deployed. She receives a bear from him with a recording of his voice as a present, but over time she finds herself resenting the present because she misses her father. This not only shows the struggle of being a service member and being deployed but also shows the struggle of the family that they leave behind.
With Duracell’s partnership with the USO, they have set forth the statement that alongside this video there will be a place to donate money to the USO so that way they can help military families move forward with a loved one who has been deployed. This film was also inspired by the real story of Denise, Robert, Mackenzie, and Xander Nilson, an actual military family who went through the struggles depicted in the video. Following the screening, a short panel was arranged that had Denise and Robert Nilson as well as actress Hilary Swank, the daughter of a retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant. During this panel, all of them talked about what it means to be a part of a military family and the great efforts that the USO does to help people in their situation.
To make a donation to the USO, you can either go to the USO webpage or make a direct donation through the Duracell youtube video.
