It was a magical Tuesday night on June 23 for those attending Jill Scott’s live performance.
Set at MIST Harlem in New York City, the Philly native songstress treated the crowd to an imitate preview off tracks to her new album, Woman, set to release worldwide on July 24 by Atlantic Records. “I just finished mastering my album today!” Scott proudly announced to the crowd. Jill had her hair natural- fitting for the event sponsored by haircare line Beautiful Textures and wore blue jeans and a 70s inspired tasseled tunic with wooden platform pumps.
Jill kicked off the night opening with the ever so popular “Long Walk” hyping the crowd as they sang along. She then sang “Boss Lady,” a new funky track off her new album. She followed with “It’s Love,” from her album “Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds.”
A beautiful moment took place when Scott looked at her son, Jett in the audience before she sang a new heart warming ballad dedicated to him.“Do you ever think you’re dying? Like inside? Like something’s happened and I’m not ok and I can’t shake it. Somebody came and helped me get my thing together. Right now he’s 6 years old and he’s the funniest coolest dude I know. So I wrote this song for him.”
Scott also sang a new favorite called “Closure,” “because sometimes we don’t get it and it’s mandatory that we do,” she stated. She sang the beginning a capella:
“In an hour when I wake up, I’m going to take a little a time to bring up that fact that we did breakup and for just one night made up and we made love and it was so good, that sweet rough, that funky stuff. I can tell by your moans you ain’t getting none.”
Scott ended the night with a bang as she belted the upbeat hit “Golden” and walked off stage and into the crowd. It was a memorable evening. Tequila Herradura provided cocktails.
