“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” the new sequel to “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” hosted a special New York screening Sunday night, attended by its star Claire Foy and her fellow cast members.
The new adaption sees Foy, taking over the role of Lisbeth Salander from Rooney Mara. Known for her Golden Globe wining performance in The Crown, it was the complexity of Lisbeth’s character that drew Foy to the role.
“I don’t seek out women who are just ‘strong,’” she told the Knockturnal. “I seek out parts for women who are vulnerable, complex, brave, courageous, difficult, above all women who struggle really. That’s what makes drama interesting, and that’s the women I’m interested in my life”
“I really appreciate her non-judgmental approach to life,” Foy says about Lisbeth. “She doesn’t judge anyone based on their sex, their religion, their political. I think she’s a very open person and I think the world could do with more people like that.”
Director Fede Alvarez told us tackling this story with his background creating thriller films was creatively gratifying. “For the kind of stuff, I’ve been doing [this story] was something that was a lot of fun to play with.”
“I always say I make two movies, one for you, another one for your subconscious. You might watch it and be like ‘this scene is making me feel bad, but your subconscious is having a great time because there’s something that is tickling back there that you don’t even know what is … I think film has the potential to do that and I really try to do that every time,” he continued.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web hits theaters November 9.
