Fashion’s elite certainly made the most of their evening at Vogue.com’s “party before the party” this past weekend – a Pre-Met Gala pajama bash held at New York City’s oldest dim sum parlor, Nom Wah Tea Parlor, in the spirit of this year’s “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibit.
Sally Singer hosted the kitsch-meets-glam event, which brought together an eclectic crew consisting of models Constance Jablonski, Xiao Wen Ju and Fei Fei Sun; designers Alexander Wang, Erdem Moralioglu, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez; and front row staples Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Chloë Sevigny and Emily Ratajkowski.
The crowd enjoyed bites of pan-fried noodles, sticky rice and dumplings, as well as cocktails prepared by appropriately festive Bombay Sapphire EAST gin and the classic St-Germain artisanal French elderflower liqueur. The custom Bombay EAST gin and tonic bar proved to be a popular offering – especially among Emily and other models who requested “lower calorie” concoctions – along with the elegant and chic St-Germain Cocktail elixir. After dinner and a champagne toast from Singer, guests including actress Alison Brie, André Leon Talley, Hamish Bowles, Mario Testino, Lisa Love—with daughter Laura—and Ladyfag flocked to the street to take in a spectacular lion dance performance by Chinatown Community Young Lions.
