Aside from the Yankees taking 2/3 games against the Red Sox this week, the two teams also met in a charity bowling tournament to benefit Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia’s Pitcch In Foundation. The foundation, which is run by Sabathia’s wife Amber, serves to enrich the lives of inner city youth by boosting their self esteem through education and athletics. The event raised money for the foundation through donations of signed memorabilia from Yankees players, exclusive access to the Yankees dugout, and the chance to spend a day at Power 105.1 with Angie Martinez.
With DJ Cipha Sounds providing the background tunes and hyping up both the bowlers and the crowd, the star-studded evening, which took place on June 5th at Bowlmor Times Square featured a slew of both Yankees and Red Sox players. Among the players in attendance were Aaron Judge, Dellin Betances, David Price, Brett Gardner, and Mookie Betts. In the main event, Sabathia and recently retired Red Sox legend, David “Big Papi” Ortiz served as captains and coaches of the two tournament finalists. In the end, Big Papi was able to will his squad “Team Manhattan Beer” to victory over Sabathia’s “Team Pitch In.
