On an arctic Thursday night, November 14, music goers welcomed shelter from the winter chill that has come over the city at Top of The Standard to see new music sensation Caroline Vreeland.
Although she is not new to the spotlight by any means, having built a career that includes titles such as, fashion muse. Her impressive resume also “encompasses co-signs from industry leaders Ryan Seacrest and Scott Storch.” Along with her famous family name, it is possible that you have already heard of Vreeland, but not in this context.
The musician has not even released a debut album but is already collecting several hundred thousand streams on Spotify and releasing singles like a conveyer belt. Her newest release, “Stay Drunk With Me,” is a haunting jazz number of debauchery and romance with a pop chorus, crooning verses complete with a smoky guitar that adds a mysterious twist. Overhearing a fellow concert goer described her as, “Billie Eilish for adults or a diet Amy Winehouse.” While she is a demanding presence in her own right, he got the gist of it: dark and empowering music performed with an attitude.
This being her first public performance, what better way to introduce her to the live music scene than the intimate bar space of The Top of The Standard with that gorgeous panoramic view we are all familiar with. Along with her newest release, she also played a soul ballad with tormenting vocals, along with other stirring electronic effects-heavy song (most likely from her upcoming album). It is difficult to imagine how she would execute this performance in such a tight setting, but like with all of her other career ventures, she succeeded greatly.
This singer-songwriter is new to the scene and has her fingers in so many pies, including acting, writing, fashion, modeling, etc. She has already proved herself to be a heavy hitter in these industries and if her singles are any indication, then we expect great things from Vreeland as she begins playing live and creating her first album, set to come out later this February.
