At this year’s New York Comic Con, BlumFest returned with a bang, delivering its biggest slate of films yet.
Hosted by Blumhouse Productions, the annual celebration of horror and thrillers took center stage, thrilling fans with exclusive first looks, new announcements, and trailers for some of the studio’s most highly anticipated projects. Jason Blum, the mastermind behind modern horror hits like Get Out, The Purge, and The Invisible Man, led the panel, teasing exciting plans for Blumhouse’s upcoming 15th-anniversary celebration in 2025. “It’s going to be BIG,” Blum promised, hinting at more surprises in store for horror enthusiasts.
The panel kicked off with the world premiere of the trailer for Wolf Man, directed by Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man). This modern reimagining of the classic Universal monster had the audience on the edge of their seats with its dark, suspenseful tone and intense action sequences. Whannell’s fresh take on the iconic character suggests a terrifying exploration of identity and transformation, and fans eagerly welcomed the new vision.
Next up was an exclusive first look at Christopher Landon’s Drop, a gripping thriller that puts a chilling twist on modern dating. The film follows a young woman on what seems like an ordinary date—until she receives an unsettling message via AirDrop. The anonymous sender delivers a terrifying ultimatum: kill her date, or face deadly consequences herself. The footage shown teased intense moments of paranoia, split-second decisions, and a sinister game of survival, leaving attendees buzzing about the film’s unique and nerve-wracking premise. Known for blending tension with dark humor in films like Freaky and Happy Death Day, Landon promises another rollercoaster ride filled with unexpected twists and heart-pounding suspense.
The surprises didn’t stop there. Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Black Adam) took the stage to present chilling first-look footage from his psychological thriller, The Woman in the Yard. Set in an eerie suburban neighborhood, the film promises to blur the lines between paranoia and reality, drawing comparisons to The Others. The unsettling atmosphere left the audience intrigued by what promises to be a suspense-filled ride.
Fans were also treated to a sneak peek of M3GAN 2.0, the sequel to 2023’s hit sci-fi horror film. The teaser hinted at a darker, more dangerous version of the doll as it evolves beyond its original programming. With the return of Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, the follow-up promises even more thrills and eerie tech-fueled terror.
Throughout the panel, Jason Blum and the filmmakers shared insights about their creative processes, reflecting on Blumhouse’s legacy and its future direction. With a mix of classic horror reboots, original films, and franchise expansions, BlumFest demonstrated why Blumhouse remains a powerhouse in the genre. The panel ended with Blum thanking the fans and promising even more surprises to come in 2025, making it clear that the future of horror has never looked brighter.
